A poem I wrote for the festive season this year. Christmas isn’t always a merry time for everyone. For some, Christmas is the most difficult, heartbreaking and lonely time. Look after each other this Christmas.
For many,
Christmas is the season,
for giving and sharing,
relationship repairing,
Whether you over
or under prepare.
Eat turkey with all
the trimmings,
or indulge in
something less traditional,
Christmas is a time for cheer,
A celebration to finish the year.
Unfortunately for some,
Christmas is the season
where painful reminders return,
and there’s empty spaces
where lost loved ones once were.
So be kind to yourself
and others this festive period,
Pick up the phone and
give that lonely person a call.
Be grateful for
every gift you receive,
every kiss on the cheek,
and every dreaded brussels sprout.
As there is someone out there
who wishes they had,
what you have.
That I have no doubt.
