This next recommendation is a short story from the Obsession collection in the Amazon Original Stories, which means if you have Amazon Prime or subscribe to Kindle Unlimited you get it absolutely free! If you are like me and had never read anything from B.A Paris before, this short story serves as a great introduction to her work if you have been thinking of reading any of her books.
Interesting fact: B.A Paris did not begin writing until she had hit 50!
Synopsis: After his wife leaves him, Michael is encouraged by his friends to go on vacation to the South of France with them. However it doesn’t turn out to be the relaxation restoration that Michael had hoped for when a Mosquito and another guest Rupert, become more and more bothersome.
Review: I absolutely loved this story, it’s an easy read with very relatable characters. It’s very likely that we all have a Michael, or a Rupert in our life and we also have friends, who have your best intentions at heart, but are perhaps oblivious to whats really going on. Because the characters are so relatable, I did also find this story quite frustrating, I found myself wanting to reach into my kindle, shake Michael and tell him to not just stand back and take it; from Rupert or the Mosquito! It did end on a weirdly satisfying and not at all expected note though. That’s all I am going to say before I give too much away!
